What you do:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist, Restaurant HR Services is responsible for providing reference materials and support to Canadian BP restaurant in relation to HR practices. In this role, the incumbent must act / respond in a manner that is at arm’s length of the restaurants, avoids any implications of joint employer status, and protects BPI from exposure and liabilities related to franchisee employment matters. The role supports the BP restaurants with human resource general employment matters to their best ability.
Additionally, the Human Resources Generalist, Restaurant HR Services will be responsible for special projects with corporate office employees, including the assistance of the Diversity Initiatives, Employee Social Events, and Engagement surveys for corporate employees as well as Health & Safety matters for both the Richmond, British Columbia and Mississauga, Ontario locations.
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Employment Standards Act Support for Restaurants (Human Resources Matters)
- Establish standard responses and recommended courses of action to the Directors of Human Resources and Director of operations regarding any HR-related restaurant concerns, avoiding any implications of joint employer status.
- Provide tools, templates and any other helpful information that may be required for BP Restaurants to resolve HR matters
- Document, track and report on any HR issues to the Operations team and Executive team members.
- Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) – The primary BPI contact, responsible for all account transfers, set-ups, and inquiries for each restaurant to access their membership portal.
- Bostonlink – Responsible for the Human Resources Services page on the Restaurant Bostonlink. Provide updates to outdated information and identify new resources based on the evolving needs of the restaurants.
- Legislation Changes – Provide monthly updates on wages set by the provincial government, specifically focusing on minimum wage information. Responsible for providing restaurants with wage increase information that may affect their business.
- HR Hospitality Leadership Training Program (HLT) – Provide a high-level overview of HR Management strategies within the restaurant, highlighting legal responsibility, full cycle recruitment, health and safety, conflict resolution and available tools and resources.
- Health & Safety (Restaurants & Corporate responsibilities)
- Provide feedback and guidance to field Operations regarding health and safety expectations, rules, policies and laws by their relevant province.
- Update sample policies and required documentation to ensure franchisees have access to accurate and updated information.
- Oversee the H&S Committees for both the corporate locations (Mississauga, ON / Richmond, BC)
- Corporate Management Responsibilities
- HR Newsletter and Diversity initiatives – Create a monthly calendar of DEI events for the purpose of to acknowledge and recognize commemorative days; create employee activities and training in recognition of the commemorative days.
- Health & Safety (both offices) – Manages the H&S requirements for Ontario and Richmond Office
- Employee Engagement Surveys – Conduct the annual Great Places To Work Survey (managing the logistics and communication) and provide the results to Senior Management.
- Social Events – be an active participant in the Social Committee for Summer and Winter employee events.
- Support projects and initiatives as requested.
- Ad hoc requests (Restaurants & Corporate Responsibilities)
- Ad hoc requests to support both BP restaurants and BPI corporate locations as required
Who you are:
- You have a diploma or degree in Human Resources, or related discipline.
- You have 3+ years of generalist experience in human resources.
- You may have a CPHR designation.
- You have strong knowledge in provincial employment legislation across Canada and hospitality operations.
- You have strong communication (written and verbal), attention to detail, organizational, analytical, problem solving, customer service, interpersonal, active listening, prioritization, multi-tasking, and MS Office skills.
- You are able to work independently and within a team, manage confidential information, and build strong working relationships with empathy and composure.
